Hand Photography Tips
Hand is a prehensile, multi-fingered body part normally located at the end of an arm or forelimb of a primate.
The human hand is flexible, creative and strong, also one of the inspiration source in photography. Everything we do involve hands, the hands tell a story of hard work, and love.
The following are a few tips for photographers when it comes to hand poses for models:
1. The position of the model’s hand and fingers should appear as natural as possible. Encourage your model to keep them relaxed and their fingers separated.
2. If your subject can’t seem to relax their hands – consider composing shots that don’t include the hands (head shots and upper body shots).
3. Sometimes the best thing to do with hands is to give them something to hold or do. Consider using a prop or have them rest upon some other element in the shot such as their legs or a chair.
4.When it comes to positioning the head on the arm, make sure that the hands are facing in opposite diagonal directions to each other. Never make the head of the model rest on top of a fist.
5. Hands tend to look best when shot from the side. Front on shots of hands can often look quite blob like.
6. The poses for the hands varies slightly depending on the gender. With male models, the hands should appear slightly close
d, while female models should keep their hands open.
